this is my current splash
It doesn't permanently replace the original splash screen. Just delete the 'Splashes' folder and open GIMP. I tried it already.

Sorry for thread necromancy, but I wanted to share too.
I'm brand new to Gimp and tried my hand at creating a splash. It's kinda neat. I like cuboids.
Not nearly as impressive as some of yours, but it's a learning experience.
I doubt the OP will see it, but thanks for the tutorial anyways. I found it on Google.
(I just realized I use the emoticons far too much.)
