Cannot get Gimp to link to my Epson NX400 scanner

I'm running OS X.4.11, and I've downloaded and installed all the TWAIN SANE packages required to get Gimp to hook up to my scanner, but all I get is a message stating that SANE cannot find any image capture device. Any suggestions? Any other programs? Thanks

oh... yeah... epson... I had an epson... it took lootz of time to get it to work....
but can the OS or any other program find the scanner at all? Cause then that would be Alpha Omega!

No, haven't been able to get any other programs to work. Preview and Image Capture both give me messages stating that SANE is in use by another application.

so you say you are running OS X 4.... or is it x.4.11 ? Or do you dont know ?
cause you apearantly need 10.3.9 or later!

So what are you running ?

And idk if there is some trick driver you can run!

OS X 10.4.11 is the operating system, and yes, I've checked the SANE libraries,and yes, I saw that my Epson Stylus NX 400 All -in-one Printer is on the list of supported scanner/printers. I reiterate, I cannot get the SANE files I downloaded to work, and I VERY CAREFULLY double checked to see that they were the CORRECT MAC FILES for my operating system. Here is what happens with the program: In Gimp, I go to File/Create/ and click Scanner/Camera. A pop up window shows the list of scanning programs, of which SANE is the only one. I select SANE, press OK, and after a slight delay, another window comes up which says, quote, "No image source was found by the SANE library. Consult the documentation at http://www.ellert.se/twain-sane/ if you expected something different." I've consulted the documentation as stated, and it all says that the software should work, etc., etc, and so forth ad infinitum.
Now, I've tried going around Gimp to get some files scanned, using Preview and Image Capture, and both programs give me the same message, that the SANE program is in use by another application. What that application could be I have no idea, nor do I understand why Preview and Image Capture will not acknowledge the Epson driver instead of the (apparently) useless SANE program.

I read your posts a couple of times to avoid making you answer more than once. Which packages did you install specifically.

Reading the documentation it says you need...
libusb
SANE backends
TWAIN SANE Interface

Did you install all three for your OS? I would also recommend installing SANE Preference Pane to see what configuration options you have available.

The TWAIN SANE Interface is provided as a binary package and as source code. To use the interface you only have to install the binary package. Before installing the TWAIN SANE Interface package you should install the libusb and the sane-backends binary packages.

Did you install in right order ? ^

I don't remember installing SANE Preference Pane, nor do I remember at this point in which order I installed libusb, etc. Do I infer that I'll have to uninstall, and then re-install them in the order you suggest?

The main thing is to install.
libusb
SANE backends

The rest aren't as sensitive to order because they don't depend on each other.

If you want a definitive order then...

Ok, I uninstalled everything, SANE.ds, libusb, etc, and then re-installed in the order suggested by sagtek. Nothing. I still get the same no-can-do messages as before. Ideas?

Try downloading and installing this driver thingy.
Then check back and tell if you got progress
(its not relevant if you have CD drivers or not, try theese anyway!)
