Fancy Font

Hi all,

I am trying to reproduce the whitish / silverish glow effect here http://a.imagehost.org/0513/font.jpg

Would I need to find this particular font or can I get the glow effect using one of gimp's tools eg filters?

any clues please??

Duplicate the text layer your working on, make the bottom text white, and use Gaussian blur.

Thanks for your help and I have followed your suggestion. In my link above some parts are more blurred than others - for example the inside or top half of the 'A' and the 'E' are more blurred than the rest - is it possible for me to concentrate the blur in this way?

It's more concentrated there because the blurred areas are close together, causing it to overlap.

But you can use the blur tool after the guassian blur to concentrate it... if you really want to

Can anyone upload a PNG and/or an XCF version, I'm having some trouble with the zip

the xcf is incide the zip... to lazy to open up gimp....

I tried to upload the xcf file but I got the message 'The extension xcf is not allowed.' - which I thought was a bit strange for a Gimp forum. So I put the xcf inside the zip = unzip with zip genius or whatever. http://www.zipgenius.com/

mediafire.com allows xcf files
and its not that the gimp forum dont allow xcf, its that the forum's code dont know what an xcf is and doesnt allow it... i think

back to objective. this will give you much better results.

1. type your text

2. alpha select the text layer: right click on that layer then select "alpha to selection"

3. grow the selection by one: select>grow

4. add a new layer

5. fill with white

6. guassian blur by about eight

7. move the layer down

you mean blur the white filled layer?

7. move the layer down

move the white filled layer down to one below the text layer?
so I should have 3 layers - bottom = original blue filled background; middle = white filled layer with blur; top = text layer?
