newbie - why does gimp crash

Postby josieo » Mon Jul 05, 2010 4:53 pm

Hello. I'm going nuts here. I keep trying the same thing and hoping for a different result.

I have installed the Gimp for my OX Leopard system. I have installed X11 too from the disc. But each time I open GIMP it instantly quits. Any thoughts?

If you ran X11 from a disk you most likely don't have the latest version, try updating it.

fonts deleted....same crash ...the error message says:

incomatible library version libgtk-x11-2.0.0.dylib requires version 3.0.0 or later but libXdamage.1.dylib provides version 2.0.0.

I have no knowledge about the installation of Gimp when it comes to OX Leopard System (because mine is Windows xp). Though I think that it may be because of compatibility issues to the OS or the size Gimp loads may be the reasons of crashing. Is the installer "Mac OS X" or "Gimp on Mac"? And also look if it is a "stable version" or "unstable version". Hope you can find a way. Ask and try more=)

NO!! Don't delete the fonts, put them back if you still have them NOW!! BoxeD was joking since he deleted fonts and Gimp didn't work. From the error it sounds like X11 isn't up to date. Or maybe XQuartz is out of date. http://xquartz.macosforge.org/trac/wiki

This user had the same error message viewtopic.php?f=8&t=3935

Now I have a real problem with the fonts. I deleted them and the computer is behaving strangely. You guys really shouldn't joke with a newbie! We can't tell if you are joking. How do I reinstall fonts? Now what do I do? I restarted the computer and the weirdness hasn't continued but my documents are all coming up in different fonts.

ok, got the fonts out of the trash....and put them back where they belong. Sorry I also see that BoxeD was laughing at himself/herself for doing that. Ok. Panic over. Will try the other stuff.

Yeah he was asking if you deleted the fonts, not if you deleted them to solve the problem. :)

Thank you gang. This is one of those awkward beginnings in a relationship, I see (LOL). I'm downloading xQuartz....I'll let y'all know what happens.
