When David told me to look up some tuts last week, I decided to ignore him
I really couldn't be bothered with GIMP but I opened it up this morning and this is what I got

The tag itself is too bright and chaotic.
It is not suggested to use 2 or more focals before you learn the basics of graphics, so I suggest taking one focal out here, most likely the one behind the smaller one.
Borders are not used a lot nowadays, because most of the designers find them bad looking, so I suggest removing them.
At the moment your BG is really messy and chaotic and messy. You also overcontrasted it, which made the colors look ugly and fried. Don't do that.
I suggest getting a good mentor or reading more tutorials. In any ways, when you somewhat learn the basics, I suggest you move to some good GFX sites, like PR, where they can help you further on.

Generally when you have bright lights, they're going to detract from the focal (in this case it should be the smaller render) which isn't good, since obviously the focal should be the focal. Borders, especially the kind you did (set the layer to burn or something) looks really, really bad. The only way borders work is if their (generally) black and set on normal. Even the best tag makers can seldom pull borders off. It's not that most people don't like them like Seta said, but they only work with some tags, and you have to know what tags those are. You have a good concept going, just work on getting nice sharp high quality effects instead of blurry ones. Since you're still relatively new, I wouldn't worry about depth, lighting, etc, work on effects, render choice (<-- important beyond belief), finding and enhancing a focal point, etc.. Anyways, keep up the good work!

The absolute first thing you should learn in making tasgs IS the basics, don't make him go off tracks before he's even got there clearly.

Lol but that IS teh basics. Basics aren't lighting, flow, colors, depth, basics are knowing what goes into a tag, what makes a good tag, and things like that. Once he knows all that does he learn depth, flow etc., and really, before giving more cnc which no one likes anyways, let us see what you can do. I seem ro remember you saying you would post something soon... a long time ago.

Admit it, you can't take it that we teach you something new. A C-student will always stay as a C-student if he gets teached, just be glad to admit the teachings, admit your loss and deal with it.
