2.8 estimate release date!

I just read that the Gimp team has released their Development Schedule, and with thats come the estimated release date for 2.8!

"There now is a schedule for GIMP 2.8 development and thus also an estimated release date, which right now is 2010-12-27. Creating a schedule was not completely uncontroversial. People pointed out that if we have an estimated release date it will surely be misinterpreted as a definite release date, and if we don't meet it, people will be annoyed. People will probably misinterpret, but that is less worse than the current situation where people speculate about dates that are way too optimistic, giving the impression that we are constantly delayed. Besides, without a schedule it is very hard for us to take decisions on what features to include and what features to not include in each release. I think that in the end having a schedule will only have a positive impact on development."

If it is, it's too bad it's expected for late 2010 (practically as late as you can get.) xD

It is beta, without most of the features like sw mode, layer groups etc. ;p

That's something to look forward to in Q4 of 2010 or possibly Q1/Q2 of 2011!

Some kick-ass new features include:

w/ layer groups:

then you can close the layers for a more organized view:

-contrast layer
*Fractal&C4D
-blur layer
*Renders
-bg

bad example, but pretty neat if you have 20-30+ layers

yes with layer groups you can put a bunch of similar layers together in one bunch.Sorta like Photshops layer folders.
2.7.1 is out unstable but works great on my Windows XP platform.It features the single window mode but unfortunately no brush dynamics which i miss in this beta release.It does also seem to load very fast.

EDIT:10/26/10 - By clicking windows/dialogs/and then brush dynamics you get the brush dynamics window. =)

Off topic kinda...
I also watched a vid on what the new gimp with full GEGL UI would look like.

there would be layers

then another dialog possibly called the manipulation dialog, (they havent really named this new dilog box yet)
anyway it would be for gegl image effects.It would work like layers also.
