How can I remove the yellowing strip from a 90 year old photo that years ago had been taped with a scotch tape like product and then as it got old fell off?

Your best bet is to search for photo restoration tutorials on google.

BTW, after rereading my post, I realize that it sounds like I was asking for help outside of GIMP. I have restored much of the picture that has been scanned using GIMP and I sing its' praises...I love the program. I just need to get rid of the yellowing strip without cloning bit by bit.
