Gimp 2.8 Resizing the dockable dialogues

How do you resize the dodckable dialogues? Like for instance my Colors dialogue stretches all the way down to the bottom of my screen. Actually how do you dock multiple dialogues in the same layer so to speak? It puts them into separate tabs.
