Is my GIMP 2.8 supposed to look like this?

Recently, I updated to GIMP 2.8 from 2.6 (which had Gimp Themes which I uninstalled prior to installing 2.8 viewtopic.php?t=626 ).
It came to my attention that the UI looked quite different from the default one from 2.6.
Honestly, it's kind-of an eyesore and it looks like something from Windows 98.
Is it normal for 2.8 to look like this?

If not, how can I fix it? I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling.

Yes it is supposed to look like that.
If the grey color is bothering you so much, you can edit the layout and color schemes as much as you want (the thing that Gimp Themes did). If you have questions about that, you might contact Rod or another person here that knows stuff about hacking.

It looks like your theme file got deleted, reinstall and choose custom installation, make sure the gtk themes are installed.

It's really easy to add themes to Gimp-2.8 now.
All you basically need is the gtkrc file.
Gimp Themes-v-1 installs these into Gimps PROGRAM directory and adds the GTK theme picker to the BIN folder.
Normally then it will add a shortcut to your desktop to the theme picker in the BIN folder.
Anyways the Theme picker relys on installed THEME folders inside the share/themes folder and dll engines installed into LIB sub directories.Namely the engines folder.
So if you go into a THEME folder any should work. You can just copy one (for instance here i copied the aurora midnight), to my UserFoldr\gimp-2.8 folder overwriting the original.

IN FACT... if you use the dll files for the themes in Gimp-2.8 the buttons and loader look pretty but the dialog content does not show unless you mouse over it. :) . This is very aggravating.
