Just the effect ?
I had da tutorial for that i think...
In text:

Open an image
Write text
Right click text layer > Alpha to selection
Select > Invert (or Ctrl+I)
Choose the image layer > Edit > Clear
Hide or delete the text layer.

Bam!
Anyone with a little scripting knowledge could even make a simple script.

Well yeah, select the text and make everything else disappear. You could just delete everything or make a layer mask which gives you more editing options later on. But why am I telling this again
