because GIMP is only for image manipulation/creation. So you may only work with static images or .GIF animations

I think that a video can be converted into layers and then run like an animated gif. So you can edit each layer but the result will only be a gif. :wilber:

You can use GAP to import video frames into Gimp.

Ok thanks guys, :) I want to try this out from fence post on adding video to gimp.
http://fence-post.deviantart.com/gallery/59724#/dmu1e0

I down loaded it, & he says to: In the main GIMP window, go to the Xtns Menu > Split Video Into Frames > Extract Videorange.

I am new to this & I am stuck already, lol.
What does he mean by, In the main GIMP window, go to the Xtns Menu?

I can’t find it. And how do I use & find Gap??
Any help, would be great, thanks. :)

That is an old tutorial for an older version of Gimp.Hence the xtns menu item mentioned,
The filter is from GAP.Gimps Animation Package.

Im not sure if this helps but what the hey:
In the gimp window you have:
File|Edit|Layers|etc........|Video(I think!)
Go: Video > Split Video Into Frames > Extract Videorange
Then save them as something...
Then use open to open the first frame, then with that frame already open you use open as layers to open the rest.
Save as .gif

I belive that is the basics...
Got möp?

OK,
I am new to this, & not sure if I'm doing this right.
But I just go to u-tube play a vid. I open the file window, then look in properties.

Then see it says that type, is not available.
I can get the url, but I'm not sure if that is what I need.
How do I get the file extention.

Thanks. :)

Are you trying to put a youtube link into the program ? ...
You need to download it!
I suggest http://keepvid.com/
For most vids you try to download there is a mp4 option
Go for that or you might have to convert it...

OK, I am trying to add video to a Gimp project using this link.
http://fence-post.deviantart.com/art/Ad ... s-38353032

Yes I was just playing with a you tube video to get the hang of it.
So I need to download it first, & not just save it then right?
Then convert it, then go to gap, & then go to the Split Video Into Frames > Extract Videorange.

Right.
Thanks for the help. :)
