Printer Problem

I am new to GIMP. I am using 2.6 version on Windows 7 machine with HP Officejet 6000 printer. When I attempt to print, the document seems to not transfer to printer. Printer opens, but shows "0" documents printing, then printer closes. Printer works fine on other programs. I have un-installed and re-installed from a fresh download. Can you help? Dmount

Im not sure, but if i recall correctly... Gimp sucks at printing.
There is probably some fix/workaround, but until save the file then print with windows!

That is save it as an image, open up the image with another, Windows native program and print it from there. Just to clarify this

Yes, i edited it and wrote "Print with windows fax and image preview thing" or something like that, but aperantly i didnt click publish or save or whatever

Try http://registry.gimp.org/files/gutenprint-5.2.3.zip.
You may get lucky and your printer may be supported.

Word of warning - if you have the PSPI plug-in installed make sure to move it to the User/gimp-2.6/plugins folder.That is only if you use PSPI for 8bf Photo Shop plugins though.
The DLL file that comes with Gutenprint plugin for Gimp crashes PSPI if its in Gimps program directory..

Seems to support many HP printers so you may want to try it.
Download the ZIP file and extract the contents.You will have a plug-in folder inside is everything you need.
Copy the entire contents of that folder into your user/gimp-2.6/plugins folder including the xml folder.Be sure to keep the xml folder intact.


You will find the printer under File/Print with Gutenprint in Gimps menu.

edit: it only works in the program files directory for me, not in the user directory.

Actually Humble is correct.I also have mine installed in Gimps program directory in the plugin folder and PSPI in the user/gimp-2.6/plugins folder.
Sorry about that.
As long as the CYGWIN dll file is not in the same folder as PSPI you should be fine.

You can also use Rob A's Python filter Shellout to call OpenOffice and the image will open in it automatically.
Then print it from there.You have to have Python-Fu installed for that though.

So if Windows doesn't support your hardware and Gutenprint has the hardware listed...it should work.

Thanks for the information page - To get it to work, did you install CUPS or any other software other than the GTK runtime ?

Gutenpr. works OK for me in linux with my printar, but not in windows yet - there were a bunch of DLL errors first, i fixed those, now the window loads, but it won't send the command to the printar for some reason - I also tried this a few months back and it wasn't working.

Windows Gutenpr. looks very tasty though.
