Free Select tool problem correcting the line

I am a noob...I am trying to use the Free Select Tool following some instructions in the book, Beginning Gimp. Well when I start to use it, all is well and then the line connects back to the first dot and I'm not anywhere near it. So then I have the Marching Ants so I have to start all over . Why is it connecting when I'm not near the beginning where I started? On the Paths Tool I can click ctrl z and undo but it doesn't work for the Free Select tool..Any help appreciated!

You must be getting too close to the starting point, try zooming in to be more precise.

I was careful as it happened to me more than once..but it seems to happen when I'm using the pen tablet but not the mouse....
so I dont' know why. I can get really close to other dots when using the mouse but the tablet is too sensitive maybe?

I just retried it and I was 10 inches away from the start point and the line went all the way down to it.
I'm zooming to 200%.

That is really annoying, it looks like you'll have to use the mouse of selecting.
