Do I need to help GIMP handle rounded corners?

Hi there guys,

Any time I design something with arcs, rounded corners or sweeps, I make a mess of it in GIMP. It's choppy and stepped and pretty much unusable. If I add an effect to a rounded edge, the result is horrific. For instance, with a bevel effect, it becomes incredibly jagged, with huge steps where the smooth rounded edge should be.

Right now, what I do is make the image I need, then ship it to my wife, who works on PSP. She remakes any round spots clear as a bell, applies the needed bevel or emboss effect, then ships it back to me.

I know I'm doing something wrong, but I can't figure out what it is? Is there some kind of smoothing or AA effect that I should be applying during the creation?

there is AA in gimp and you should turn that on where ever possible.

also please post an example of this and the same thing after your wife fixes it.

if you haven't, ask her how she fixes it. many effects in ps can be simulated in gimp.
