[SOLVED] Cloning with a colour which is not in the image

[b][/b]I have an image/photograph (say an old photograph which was again photographed with a digital camera) against a background which was removed so that the background does not detract from the photograph.

The original had rounded corners and I achieved a semblance of rounding with lasso tool and the background of rounded corners is now white; but the original square corners are visible as straight lines meeting at corners.

I want to remove the lines (with the clone tool, say) and make the background white, but I am not able to use the white of the background and there is no white in the photograph. Is there a way to clone from another photograph which has white in it.

I tried posting a corner of the photo, but could'nt. (I will search for the way separately)

So you used the laso ( free select tool ) to clip parts of the photo?
You didn't get the entire shape (some of the outside was left)?

Are you saying have the original photo on one layer and the white bg under? Or are they merged?
If merged...
Use the paint brush (same as below ...round soft small )..make sure white is your foreground color and paint over the lines with white color.

If not merged...
Sounds like you need to use the eraser brush circle or round soft with a small diameter on the photo layer.
You can also set the opacity real low to get a better feel.ZOOM in real good for better quality.Lightly erase the lines.

When you open an image in gimp, it always opens as a rectangle/square. To restore rounded corners, I used the lasso tool; the outside edges are straight lines but as you cannot select beyond the boundary, probably a line would always remain at the boundary. (The lasso tool was used at a magnification of 400%) Say the bottom left edge appears something like this |_.

I think I did not merge the layers or flatten the image. I will try both the methods and come back.

The eraser did the trick.
Sometimes the obvious and simple does not occur to us.

let me get this. you open a photo and want rounded corners. is that right?

if so:
make sure the image has an alpha channel: layer>transparency>add alpha channel
note: if you can't select "add alpha channel" than the image has one.
select>all
select>rounded rectangle, set at 10
select>invert
edit>cut
