Select multiple layers in gimp

Postby humblejohnny20 » Mon May 30, 2011 5:37 am

in photoshop, if you hold shift, you can select several at a time, to rearrange, delete, etc. Is this possible to perform in The Gimp ?

You can do a lot with layers if you have the layers group plug-in. :)
http://registry.gimp.org/node/16563
it works with the layers being linked though not a keyboard shortcut.

Because this SCM script adds itself to the top menu under a sub menu named layer Groups, i decided to fix it. :)
I like all my layer tools under the Layer menu so here is the script fixed to show a menu Layer Groups under the Layer menu item.

Okay Gimper will not allow over 20k characters in one given post and it also will not except the SCM file extension in attachments....soooo
I uploaded it here - just select all and save in a text file as "mig-gimp-layer-groups.scm" - set your permissions however your system does it. (windows probably not needed)
Place the scm script in your scripts folder and refresh scripts Filters/Script-Fu/Refresh Scripts
You will find the filters under Layer/Layer Groups/......

Thanks for the script Rod, i'll try that. I was hoping that there was something like that natively in the current version though.

*sigh*

so many missing features in gimp, even though theres a few goodies like linux, more options with solid noise and usermade scripts..

2.7.3 is already available here for windows
http://partha.com/ ... as well as some other plug-ins that were needed to be compiled for the 2.7 version.
2.7.3 has layer groups,(actual folders for layers), but still can not select multiple layers which is kind of sad.

The mig-layer-group script does most of what you will need by linking layers though.
