Gimp will not open

I have a MacBook Pro, Mac OS X version 10.6.8. I downloaded both XQuartz and Gimp (Version for Snow Leopard/Lion, 2.8.0), logging out and then back in to ensure XQuartz would work. I transfer Gimp to my Applications folder and then double click to open it. It asks me if I really want to open it cause I got it from the internet and I say yes. It opens in my Dock, the little icon bouncing with the little dot beneath it. And then a couple seconds later it closes out and vanishes. It starts to open but then shuts itself down and I can't figure out why.
How come Gimp won't open even though I have XQuartz?

We really don't have many (if any) Mac users around here, so all we can say is the usual: uninstall Gimp, delete everything connected to Gimp from your computer, update everything necessary, download the latest Gimp version from an official site, reinstall from scratch and see if it gives you any problems.
I've got no idea about XQuartz and co, so sorry :/

You may want to try Parthas MacGimp version of Gimp-2.8.1
