Installing Gimp 2.6.8 help

I'm trying to install Gimp 2.6.8 on a Mac OS X 10.5.8 computer, and I'm having some problems. When I open Gimp, it launches X11 twice (two icons appear in the dock). One of them appears to work fine, while the other one times out. A window also appeared the first time in X11 saying "bash-3.2$," however that no longer happens. Nothing ever happens with the Gimp window, and it eventually times out as well. When I ran Gimp from the Terminal, it said this:

Any ideas as to how I should proceed from here would be greatly, greatly appreciated. Thank you!

ETA: I also installed X11 from a CD, which--having browsed the forums a little bit--is apparently not what I was supposed to do (?). However, before I installed it, Gimp would simply open and close right away, without ever opening X11.

Have you tried updating X11?

Yes. I ran the Software Update and X11 didn't come up. Although I'm not well-versed in X11 at all. Should I download the newest version directly from Apple?

Um, I think so, I'm not a Mac user so I don't know about these things, but there is a Mac user who stops by every few days, she should be able to help more.

Actually, yeah, I found an upgrade for X11, and now it works. I should have searched harder for that originally. Thank you!

SeerowsKindess, ummm is the update and upgrade two different things or is just one? I'd like to know how or what made it solved, any links or steps you did? that way you'll be able to help others too (including teaching me). =D
