Gimp freezing up?

Hi. I'm new to using GIMP (I just downloaded it today), but something weird happened. The entire program sort of froze up, and even though a window is "active" nothing I click does anything. But when I look at the GIMP icon in the dock, it says everything is completely responsive. I'm a bit confused here. Normally I would just quit GIMP through the dock and relaunch it, but I know you're not supposed to quit GIMP that way... and I have no idea what to do It's been like that for about ten minutes.

I'm on Mac OS X 10.5.4 and I downloaded X11 2.2.3 from XQuartz.

Thanks to anyone who helps me. I'm not very good with computers, as you can probably tell...

GIMP is not a normal mac application, it runs through X11. To force it to shut down, force quit X11. If it freezes regularly, come again though, this shouldn't happen
