Does your issue look like gimp-close-when-i-try-to-open-it-t1434.html ? (do you get a crash report?)

I have almost the same problem. I installed the GIMP 2.4.6 from http://darwingimp.sourceforge.net/download.html and the installation semed to go perfectly. Then I had the problem listed elsewhere on the forum except that in my case I got three windows which appear to be ready for action. (GIMP Tip of the Day, GIMP, and Layers, Channels, Path) However when I click on any Menu item the program terminates with the following message "The application X11 quit unexpectedly".

Following one of the fixes listed here I downloaded Gimp.zip and replaced the GIMP file in MacOS with this one, which seemed to fix a very similar problem discussed here ... BUT for me it doesn't work ... same result as before. Since I am using Mac OS X Version 10.5.2 which comes with X11 I didn't try any other down loads.

Can anyone help?

arawak1: I would suspect an X11 problem. Where did you install it from? (having 10.5.2 is not enough, if your computer originally had 10.5.0 and then was updated to 10.5.2 it won't work) Try installing the latest package from XQuartz --> http://trac.macosforge.org/projects/xquartz/

Thanks for the help. Your suggestion worked. Now all I have to do is read the manual.

There is a small problem: On the menus the font is garbled until i fly the mouse over it. (Weird!!) If you have the solution to this, I' d appreciate it.

Hi,
please see the installation manual : http://darwingimp.sourceforge.net/guides/install_tiger/
On mac OS X 10.4, X11 cannot be downloaded, you need to install it from your OS X install disk

Well your opinion was quite quick to change. I believe Seashore is still in Alpha testing, and is no where near done.

I have Mac OS X 10.5 (Intel). I already have X11 installed.
I have the same problem as the others.
The GIMP icon just bounces on the dock and then disappears.
Below are the problem details. thanks!

I can read the Reason there but I have no idea how to fix it. I just recently replaced a PC with a Mac so I have no idea yet how to do

ekkay: your X11 is probably too old, try installing the latest packages from XQuartz

Here's the error message I'm getting when I launch Gimp from a Terminal session:

Last login: Wed Jul 16 11:53:07 on tty??
/Applications/Utilities/Gimp.app/Contents/MacOS/Gimp ; exit;
dyn9189218:~ Joey$ /Applications/Utilities/Gimp.app/Contents/MacOS/Gimp ; exit;
/Users/Joey
Could not get password database information for UID of current process: Failed to get groups for username "Joey" primary GID 1551083765: Unknown error: 0

Failed to start message bus: Memory allocation failure in message bus
EOF in dbus-launch reading address from bus daemon
No matching processes belonging to you were found
logout

[Process completed]

"Joey" is my user name. I wonder why Gimp is trying to access my password database information?

Hey Guys,

I have been reading over all the posts, & I cannot find the install guide (I did google for it).

As well I cannot seem to access the command line so many sites say I need to access to install GIMP correctly.

Any help would be apprecitaed.

OS X 4.11 & PPC

Thanks
