Eye/Iris texture tutorials?

First post here, so please excuse me if I am posting in the wrong forum/asking for something that is already available. I did a search, but came up with nothing... so hopefully there will be no issues.

I am really struggling to make an attractive iris. I have found maybe 2 tutorials online that were useful, but neither gave me the realistic results I was hoping to achieve. I'm not doing very well with trial and error, either. I'm stuck somewhere between an image that is too sharp or a texture that is lacking detail.

Any pushes in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I would like to make an original texture, preferably no tutorials using stock photos.
