How to do a simple gradient with some cool text in

Can anyone please help me....ive figured out how to do the banners now :-) just copy and paste till i fill the background of a the new dimensions i want to fill......easy when you think about it.

Im creating a new site team-xecuter.net i need to do a logo 530 x 228 that looks good. Can anyone help me do this so it looks professional.

Here's simple way to create a nice text effect. I used this to create the previous logo.

Go to your text layer, duplicated it. On your duplicated layer, apply gaussian blur > 5. Alpha selection (still in the same layer) then apply a gradient map of your choice. Remove the selection. Duplicate the layer three times then move your original text layer to the top and set it's mode to screen or play around with it until it looks cool.

il try my best at it theres so much that gimp can offer with effects you learn another and forget the previous....i have downloaded a cd to watch on tv to help me as i go. its about an hour and half long.

how do i do a gradient i no i need the path tool then what do i do after that

For the gradient, simply go to your blend tool or press Ctrl + L then click, drag then release anywhere in your canvas to apply it.

Ok, here's a more detailed one.

Go to your text layer, right click on it and click 'Duplicate Layer'
While on your duplicated layer, right anywhere on your canvas and choose 'Filters > Blur > Gaussian Blur' then a pop up will appear. Change the value of the horizontal and vertical to 5 or it depends in your choice then click ok. Now, right click on your blurry duplicated layer and choose 'Alpha to Selection'. Go to your blend tool (ctrl + l) and apply any gradient maps. Then ctrl+shift+a to remove the selection. Duplicate your blurry text layer up to 3 times then put your original text layer to the top then change it's layer mode to screen or play with it until it looks better.
