Icons for Remote Control

Hello all and Happy New Year.
I'm working on a Philips Pronto Remote Model TCU 6000. I've had help before on this forum and need some further assistance. On my home screen of the remote I am wanting to have some icons for some of my devices. Specifically what I need is the following; VCR, Direct TV, XM Radio & Netflix. I have found a way to get the job done but the borders of the images that I have copied to not match my background. For example the Direct TV image has a white border around it where I need the border to be black or gray. Can someone point me in the right direction on how to do this or possibly a tutorial.

i can try to tell...


Make a layer
Make a red square, stroke a light red to dark red gradient (see image ^) then cut out half a circle
Make a new layer
Make a bigger white square, stroke a white to gray gradient (see image ^) move beneath red layer
Make a new layer
Make the text, and go alpha to selection, select>grow 1px
Make a new layer
fill with black and move layer beneath text layer
copy the layer and move it 1px left and 1px down
do this 3 times for 3d effect
Make a new layer
take the paths tool, and make a circular-ish selection, select FG to transparent, gradient and stroke up from the middle, move the layer to the top in the layers, and change blend mode or lower transparency


layer should look like this
GLOSS
WHITE TEXT
BLACK OUTLINE
RED SQUARE
WHITE SQUARE

The reason why i didnt use GKH's 3d text tut, cause im to lazy to fin the link + i think its easier this way

David can u edit the stroke in:
stroke a light red to dark red
stroke white to gret
to gradient?
and gret to gray?

The cd part:




Make a new layer
make a circle, use a FG to BG gradient from the edge to crate som shadow..
Make a new layer
Then change the gradient to color spectum (?) and use the gradient on the whole screen, then use perspective tool to change it to fit the CD.
Make a new layer
Alpha to selection, shrink so it is small but not too small, and then go select to path, then change to fuzzy brush (07), change color to grey, then go select>none, then edit>stroke path then select use brush (?) and then stroke.
Shrink again, then Edit>cut
Make a new layer
Then press select>shrink (this is the inner white circle)
fill with white. Select>shrink. Edit cut
Make a new layer
fill with grey again
Select>shrink by 2px maybe...
Edit>cut


Then while having this little selection in the middle, right click on a layer and press "merge all visible layers" the click edit>cut


The reason why it doesnt say Shrink by this mutch or any values at all is that im not in gimp... i write this out of my own mind, and will try it now... tell me if it works :-D
