Barracks garden at Manzanar War Relocation Center

Postby JoeEkaitis » Wed Oct 15, 2008 3:32 pm

Lovers of nature, the American citizens of Japanese descent who were detained at Manzanar War Relocation Center during World War II made the best of it by transforming some of the open spaces into communal gardens. Now only the desert wind rushes through the man-made brooks and streams.

You can almost feel the wind in the full size version.

That picture would be great if it wasn't for that pole.

I wanted to capture the raw truth and beauty of the scene. Someone's hand put that pipe there in an effort to make Manzanar a more livable place. When the brook was filled with water, the pipe would have been submerged but exposed, it tells part of the story, and whether that person is still alive or has passed on, it wouldn't be right to take that away.

i think your contrast is a bit high, the sun blinds me.... also i find the colours pretty boring, and it does not (because of the colours) contain much depth....

srry...
