i think a few forums should have a sub-forum for "finished" topics

examples:

Gimp Help Section should have a sub-forum called "Solved Problems". That way the problems are sorted out for people who are searching and for those who are trying to answer other people's questions.

Gimp Competitions should have a sub-forum called "Past Competitions" or some thing similar.

Request section should have a "Completed Requests" section.

yea yea nice idea :D
instead of subforums we should have a marking system :P
the mods or the thread starter can mark requests as completed or questions as solved :D

No I think the mods or admin should still do it. (Isn't that kinda what we're here for? :P ) It'll get too confusing if you just start giving people powers for whenever they start a thread.

Well, I'll give it some thought and talk with Gimper. It's a good idea, but sometimes the original poster doesn't notify if he sorted the problem out or not so it might backfire (specially for the moderators since they must be certain the problem has been solved)

ok, well possibly a simple rule should be put in place in the event that it isn't working:

If the person asking the question doesn't respond back saying, "thanks" or "yay it worked" etc., then just leave it there.

Thats just my opinion :)

This idea sounds great, the only issue that came to mind is how long after an issue is solved do we move it to the solved section? and what happens to threads where the issue is solved but the OP doesn't come back or leave a reply?

I suggest we have a time frame for moving threads, that way we can avoid the OP from getting confused and lost about his thread is since we won't be leaving shadow threads behind.

Hmmm.... I like the idea. :D
But what if you just put [Solved] in the subject?

well the only thing i could think to help solve that is to just leave it in the unsolved section if the person doesn't respond, but maybe the time frame could work with that.

Its automatically moved to the solved section if a person responds, and if they don't respond, it isn't. But if it looks resolved, then after a week or maybe more, it is moved to the solved section.
