ubuntu wont boot

i upgraded from 10.4 to 10.10 but now when i try to boot it it gives me a grub menu that looks something like comand promt and i dont know what to do
i have a video but dont want to use windows unless nessasary

typed via dsi so sorry for typos and thank you if you help

You could try DL unetbooting and boot from usb with that!
Then you'll get in ubuntu and then you can fix it from there!

i actually cant right now my cameras batteries died ill try to soon
i tried getting into 10.4 a reinstalling it and a bunch of other things but it still wont work
now i dont have windows or Ubuntu and ubuntu wont install
and ive been on here for about six hours trying to fix it
inm using the cd to use my computer

cant you boot with the cd and then go and dl the ubuntu and just install it over it ?
idk anything more than that

I ran the installation again so i could get access to the to the system memory and it installed
lost everything that wasnt stored online though so right know all I have is my bookmarks and some stuff on Ubuntu one

i forgot to back up stuff on Ubuntu one
have to wait tell i can use my flash drive that has some stuff on it
now why did the installer hate me the first time through
