Did you go into your user docs and delete every rc file and the gimp folder and all its subfolders?
Sometimes a gimprc file can be found outside the gimp folder in user docs.I was having trouble installing Python for gimp 2.6.11 on my laptop, until i went through the user docs folder in EVERY user folder and deleted them all. Then it installed perfectly...
If you installed Gimp for "all users" , those folders (the gimp 2.0 folders), will still be in those other user folders even if you un-install Gimp through control panel/add remove programs. Are you using Windows or a different platform?
