Post Building a Gimp.app package
Hello,

I have been trying to figure out how to "install" Gimp correctly on my 10.6.2. I downloaded once a week ago, played around a bit, but got frustrated with problems in filters, that I decided to uninstall it. My dilemma is (or was?) whether just downloading the initial package is enough, or do I need additional downloads? (plugins, scripts, etc. - these are totally new terms for me, anyways). Then I ran into this post, where I see instructions on actually "build" Gimp.app, and that tells me that, yes, I should have installed more things.

The instructions are way beyond my bravery towards tinkering on computers, especially, since I just switched to Apple (happy about this, so far), but I wonder if I should still follow these instructions (in this post), since it looks like they were for an older version of OS, or there's a more updated version of "how to build Gimp.app"? (I could be willing to try, though).

Again, my dilemma, is what would I need to download, in order to have a relatively complete Gimp package?

It's like going shopping for... Let's say... New Year's Eve Party (food, fireworks, decorations, games, of course, Champagne, or Sekt, ;) etc...), isn't it?

Thank you.

Ciao.

G.

... there's no need to build GIMP on you own unless you are a software developer and want to help developing GIMP to run on Mac OS X or you want do develope and code your own plugins.

So just download the pre-build packeges from

http://gimp.lisanet.de

I strongly recommend that you first try to get familiar with GIMP's basic usage before you decide to install tons of scripts, plugins, brushes etc. Just read the GIMP User manual

http://docs.gimp.org

Post Re: Building a Gimp.app package
Even though I'm enjoying the prebuilt package I'm wondering on how to do a static version of Gimp or specifically any GTK+ app.

I am wondering how to make a static built of our gtk+ and glade based program Exult Studio (a mapeditor for the old dos game running under the Exult engine http://exult.sf.net).
Do you think I can adapt the guide http://darwingimp.sourceforge.net/buildgimp.html for this?
Obviously I wouldn't need all of what you are installing, I need libglade though and am not sure whether that gets pulled in by gimp2.
Is there an up to date guide for this? Do you, Lisa, build the Gimp package like this or through your (?) old guide I found in the wayback archive http://web.archive.org/web/200803132059 ... .howto.txt

Not asking for real help on building a static version of our app but asking just for an opinion whether you think this is doable through your scripts...

Thanks

Dominus

Hmm, I just found http://sourceforge.net/projects/gimpono ... ic/3267414 through your SF forums. I think that this will get me on the right track :)
