So I was in the shower last night, and I was thinking about looking into Adobe Aftereffect.
Well, I got up this morning and now know that I will not be purchasing aftereffect. But it got me thinking on GIMP. Wouldn't it be cool if you could import a video in its format (not extract to frames and all that) and go through it like in a video editor on a timeline and edit each frame how you like?
You'd be using the same photo editing tools you're used to, but on the frames of a video, and then export it to the same video format.

    Opinions on this?
(I could never set up such a function, but I find it interesting to dream.)

I'd say it would be a) pretty complicated (way more so than the real programs are), and looking at Gimps render speed, I wouldn't want to render 200 lense flares into a video just to get a 10 second effect of staring into the sun...

Now if AfterFX had every Gimp/PS filter, that would indeed be quite cool.
