Obviously more would be added. lol
i get it! ;D
road is LQ btw
Meh, I know. Other than that, is it pretty good?
yup, if i look away from my personal view, its damn good!
i dont like it, but thats just the details like color, render, etc.
but the set up and the basics are awsome...
you get what i mean ?
Yeah, I think I get it.
We should get opinions of everyone working on creating the magazine to see what they want.
sick or busy
What about the tutorial? I think a puzzle effect shouldn't be in the first episode, it should rather be something everybody wants to try out because it's what everybody needs, like a basic signature tutorial. The next episodes can come with something more special then in my opinion.
Ok lets start over shall we?
Sorry i've been real busy and away.
We need to start over and begin with the cover. (one page at a time ok)
I have a lot of ideas written down, but i would like to go slow and get one area set and good to go before we go on to the next.
Cyril, you said you want a more professional looking cover.
Personally i think anyone should be able to look at our covers and think...this will be fun and interesting to read. It's a magazine about creation and design is it not?We are not creating a professional web-page here, fonts are not going to matter that much in my opinion. But that is just my opinion.Ok with that said, how does everyone else feel about the cover?Lets get some input so we know what to design.
A tutorial on a sig is a great idea, but we need a couple more tutorials for inside the mag to create interest, and i believe the puzzle tutorial is simple and will gain that interest in all ages of Gimpers.
Take a look at the FREE PlugsandPixels mag.
That is what i have been trying to capture.
Imagination and Creation. That's what people are interested in, not professionalism.
If we were selling the magazine that would be different entirely.Let's put it to a vote and see how everyone feels about the cover.
Do you think it should look professional? If you do then lets get going on it so we can get the first issue out by September 25th. =)
So i feel the cover i created is fine the way it is.
Another tutorial on Sigs is fine with me also
I vote on my cover and another sig tutorial, but i would like to keep the puzzle tut in there for the first issue.
In my opinion, Cyril is right about the main cover thing. If there are millions of colors and big glowy texts it looks interesting for kids, but not for people that expect serious information from this magazine. The last one from Plugs 'n Pixels looks great for my taste, it's simple, it's easy, there's no big text and it's looking at least credible, if not professional.
The tutorial is the same for me, I don't care about making the puzzle one, that shouldn't be the problem, but in my opinion we shouldn't start with something as fancy but with something basic and more widely spread, like a sig tut, a "how to render" tutorial, a "how to use gradient maps" or "the basic rules of a good artwork", something that everyone wants to know and everybody finds informative. This does not mean that I think the puzzle tutorial is bad, it means that it is, in my opinion, too specific and not interesting for 80% of the readers. I personally wouldn't read that page because I know that I won't propably need that effect in the future. On a sig tutorial, I'd at least stop to see if there's some hint I could use in the future.
What about the other sections, no discussions about those?
Anything new here? My school exams will soon be done, then I'll be able to do some stuff for the mag.
Crap, i've been really busy with school and other stuff, i completely forgot about this. Maybe i can get more active in it?
What needs done, i'll do it.
I'll do some basic tutorials inside a .pdf if you want them. This might take a while though, some exams are still unwritten in German0y
Yeah, same here in Americ0y.
Tell me what needs doing.
*runs back to page 1 to see what he volunteered for*
I forgot to mention, I can do any 'Mac translations' needed, for whatever reasons. ^_^
Okay, I will now simply start because otherwise it will take even longer to start this
I'll do two beginner tutorials, one about .. Layer Masks (2 of 5 difficulty points) and one about gradient maps (2 of 5 aswell), then one advanced one about Clipping Masks (3 of 5), and maybe one "DID YOU KNOW...?" part where I tell them how to change the default canvas sizes like I did in my tutorial.
Anything special about the resolution of the .pdf? Some color presets for mah section?
Btw: Can you simply make a picture of your site and make it .pdf somehow? I have got no clue tbh...
you can use bullzippdf!
Thaz what i use!
everything you print will, instead of coming out as paper, come as pdf on your location of choice!
If you ask me, gradient maps and clipping masks are two of the most basic things in GIMP...?
Yeah and that's why I make tuts on them. If you want a full tag tutorial, or a tutorial about a special photo manipulation I did, you can have it. But in my opinion the basics are more important, especially in the first issue.
Even some of the advanced people here asked about how to archieve the cool clipping mask effect.
I'm also thinking about a short quick tip about the Rule of Thirds. The small little things that everybody should know, but only a few DO actually know.
If you want me to, I can also make a big one soon, but for me, the basics are more important in the first issue.
My point was you had GMs as 2/5 difficulty, and CMs as 3/5.
Yeah because GMs take 20 seconds and CMs take 40 ;D
By the way:
Is fun allowed? Or should it be all professional? Because when my first page was done, I had some empty space so I filled it randomly with a smiley Remove it?
