    Hello everybody!
I spent this day trying to realize my wish which is described here.
(in a nutshell: i want to have monochrome tools (and other) icons instead of bright that are brought by default)
And here is my first results.
Because it's not a tango theme it could be necessary to make both light and dark theme so i present a dark one (for the bright environment).
I tried to improve them first of all make them a little bit precise than original. It's only for the mini theme. Big theme as is think don't needs any improvements so i only make it monochrome.

All comments, wishes and criticism will be appreciated.

First one is a most bright background:[IMG] Then one i prefer and reccomend:[IMG] And the rest two:[IMG] [IMG]

P.S.: if you noticed here a bonus T letter for text tool (to make association). Comment if you like it :)

Those are looking great, so have you figured out how to add them in Gimp?

    Yet not surely.
I found them in a source package and i plan to find out which files are pesponsible for them when the package is compiled. I think it could work after compilation now but i want to pick out responsible files instead of making the whole package.

It works! Here is screenshots with both big and small themes in a default Ubuntu Lucid environment.

Now it's time to sort out files which are responsible.

Okay, nobody is listening but i am on my way.

Here is the working version of a theme(s). (

    Download here, unpack to :
    1) for Linux: /usr/share/gimp/2.0/themes/
    2) for Windows: ../GIMP-2.0/share/gimp/2.0/themes/
    3) for Mac: ..i/don't/know/but/something/similar/
NOTE: you will not be forced to replace your default icons.

Then when in GIMP go in Preferences > Themes, and choose one of new themes.

I hope it could be useful for somebody. Please comment any shortcomings.

Dude these are awesome! Please tell us how you figured it out! Oh, the only thing I see wrong is the small theme comes out blurry on Windows. :)

Off topic, alright another Dropbox user.

Sorry but i am a girl. Or "dude" is not matters exact sex? :)

Yes it can be a little bit bright on DEFAULT windows environment. But this remastered theme is one to be used with custom themes which have gray background in some range as seen on my first post in this topic.

Further i plan to add 4 more themes which are includes one mini default theme just greyscaled.
I think it will be less blurry and somebody prefer to use it.

Then i want to add 3 themes for dark backgrounds which must be kinda light to prevent confluence.

How i figured it is the big story. But i will tell you when i have more time. The key to this is in the GTK+ documentation and especially in gtkrc files.

Oh thank you! I see it's a bug on default theme! Hmm it looks like default icons become buggy too.

    Should fix it.

Here you can download fixed and a little bit extended version.
Example of the new light theme for dark backgrounds:[IMG]
I know it's not awesome but i have no better ideas at this time. However you can change something by yourself just stare into the "share/gimp/2.0/themes" folder.

If you need more instructions hot to change another icons and how it is works just appeal to me.

P.S.: Also please reply if you found any bugs.

Hope it will be helpful for somebody.

As i see on your screenshot you downloaded the previous version (which i named as beta) and little icons is blurry as discussed here above.
You need THIS fixed version (maybe you don't notice this link).
But if it's a "fixed" version on your screen so it's very bad and still need some fixing. But on my machine it works nicely.

    Thank all you for feedback!

The fixed small theme looks great, but the remastered theme is weird, the icons don't look good at all.

If you make a light theme of the current icons for users that use the dark Gimp themes, I'd be happy to upload the final version to my gimp site. projectfx.exofire.net (the site is down right now but will be back up soon)

I could do that but i really don't know how to figure that without changing any items. Or which way will be better to make them lighter. For example if i use the color invert it brings very awful results.
So maybe you can advice which instruments can i use to make them looks better?
