I was all like "OMG AWESOME", until I realized it wasn't a real GIMP version.
    Then I was sad.

You could probably tear apart one of the GTK themes and get close to this.
For one thing though you would not be able to move the menu items in the image window.
Colors and transparency could be changed though.
Not sure i wanna go at it though lol - it would be a lot of work. :)

If someone else want's to try it just open one of the theme folders in Gimp-2.0/share/themes
Copy the gtkrc file and place it in another folder called transparent gimp and work on it in Notepad ++.
I am sure you could google how the themes are styled. (editing code)
Or if you feel real jumpy you could just play with it and see what happens. :p

When your finished throw the entire folder back into the themes directory.
It will show in Gimps Edit/Pref/Themes

Thanks for the info Rod, there is no way I would be able to do that, but would it be possible to make it so your Theme would be transparency and you would be able to see your desktop or whatever is open behind GIMP through?

I think that would be really cool to have your Work in GIMP just floating over your desktop image :D
