are any approximate date for Gimp 2.6 download for Mac?
Gimp 2.6 has some new dependencies (gegel, babl). I've patched various Portfiles and added some new ones (for gegl and babl).
And I just typed: "sudo pot install gimp"
So let's hope that everything compiles well...
I was about to start doing the same thing I won't have much time until the week-end though, so if you come up with something before i have time to look into it, and you don't mind sharing, it would be great.
I'm not sure if the latest GEGL/BABL build out-of-the-box on mac. I know i submitted a few patches to them, and they integrated in SVN, but i don't know if they did another release since then.
So, how long are we looking at for GIMP 2.6 on Mac? a week?
If all goes well, less than a week is likely. But of course we never know ahead of time if it will go well
True. My friend has just downloaded it, and man do it want it bad!!
- most things compiled well
- one more new package is needed
- I'll try it later in a few hours (I've to do some other stuff on my job)
... be patient.
Just an information: Aaron Voisine has posted an "experimental" native version of Gimp.app 2.6:
I have not tested it yet...
im installing the native version right now.
JUST INSTALLED NATIVE GIMP!!
working like a charm
never mind, there are still a few bugs, id rather have the x11 version 2.6 until these bugs are solved.
Thank you to Aaron Voisine for the experimental build. It runs kind of slow on mine for some
reason - if that information is helpful.
But regardless thanks.
When you say one more thing needs to be packages does that mean we can expect it today?
yes, i'll try to release a Gimp 2.6 package today.
(sorry for the delay, but I just got a "new" iMac G4 today which I bought on *Bay... I really love this G4.... )
Downloaded and gave it a try - thoughts:
(a) looks very pretty
(b) not usable in it's current form
Deleted it again, but one to watch ...
it's done. ;D
.. just build and uploaded a Gimp 2.6.0 dmg (Leopard/Intel) on my website. You can download it from
I've labeled this build as "rc1" to indicate, that it wasn't tested in detail, so there may be some errors or bugs (there's currently one plugin which crashed on my machine, so I disabled it. But this will be fixed soon ...)
Please download this package, test it as much as you can and post your experiences here...
Woohoo! Thanks! I've been using 2.6rc1 for the last 10 minutes or so and everything seems good so far. I'll post if I run into any problems.
I'm just downloading it, I too will post any problems. Will it eventually be bug free?
Edit: 2.6 isnt opening on my computer, but my old 2.4 version is? any help? thanks!
lisanet, would you mind sharing the macports files you built? that would save me time
Of course I will share them.
I've recently made a whole build environment for Gimp/MacPorts. The current 2.6.0 build uses various (12) patched Portfiles. This way I got rid off some MacPorts erros (the really annoying "p5-getopt-long" bug... ) and could reduce the packages which need to be build. I still need some time to write some docs about all the scripts I'm using to manage this....
I hope it will ....
Currently there are only some really, really minor things, that have to be, let's say, checked and tested. IMO, I will release a "bugfree" (meaning: as far as possible bugfree integration into OS X) Gimp bundle. Please continue testing and posting....
... try this:
go to /tmp/skl and delete Gimp.app by doing:
and relaunch Gimp 2.6.0
i cant find those files?
