I just found an awesome extension/addon for GIMP in Windows - GIMP Extensions
    https://code.google.com/p/gimp-extensions/

Is there anything similar for GIMP on Linux? (Meaning, something that auto-magically adds a bunch of extensions/addons/scripts to GIMP).
Even just a handful of addons (to manually install) that expand photo editing/cleanup capabilities.

I've been searching online, and on the GIMP Registry site, but haven't found anything yet.

Thank you in advance if you have an opportunity to respond.

For a debian based distro - ie. any of the 'buntus, Mint..etc look in your distro repo for the package
    gimp-plugin-registry

Just for information a list of the package contents here, but install using your repo.
    https://packages.debian.org/jessie/gimp-plugin-registry

rpm based distros - the one I use, PClinuxOS has many individual packages, at least it saves having to compile a plugin yourself. Which is worth a note, even in the gimp-plugin-registry package, many are OS independent, scm scripts and python .py plugins. which can be found elsewhere.

Personally I have decided views on these packages whether for linux or windows. Installing a couple of dozen plugins into your root gimp folders is not a good idea, unless you intend to share the Gimp installation with many other people., otherwise it is just bloat.

The best place for any script/plugin is in your home folder ~/.gimp-2.8/scripts and ~/.gimp-2.8/plug-ins

edit: an alternative - a single plugin with 400 something filters is gmic www.gmic.eu
I know it is in the ubuntu/mint repo but as above best place is in your home folder.
http://gmic.eu/gimp.shtml download the appropriate zip (32 or 64 bit) unpack, pop into ~/.gimp-2.8/plug-ins I find that permissions are already set but check them anyway.

    rich2005,

Thank you for the information. It didn't occur to me that having all those plugins in the main program folder.
I ended up going with the second option, putting them in my /home folder. That worked well.

I'll take a look a gmic. With FX Foundry, that might be all the addons I'll ever need.

    Thank you again.
