I can find no information on this essential function of Photoshop (and, I hope, Gimp) in either tutorials or on this board. Someone please help!

Converting text to outlines is essential for manipulating the Bezier curves of a font's "printer font," the EPS file that tells a printer what to print. I need to adjust the length and curve of a type character.

    Thanks

You can convert the text to a path using the "Path from Text" button in the Tool Options for the Text tool. Then you can edit the path (which is the outline of the text) using the Paths tool. I'm not sure if that will do what you need for printing though.
